Workspace with fully integrated multimedia technology

Technissimo – a technological design, engineering and marketing company – worked in close co-operation with MAXIMALdesign for the ideation, design and development of Multimo Workspace, the first high-end ‘dreamware’ product under the new Technissimo brand name.
“We spend more time at our desk than in our car, yet our car is far better adapted to life in these modern times. A car has all possible technologies and modern conveniences integrated in its design, a desk is still little more than a work surface and four legs,” says Ben Jans, founder and CEO of Technissimo.
The challenge of Multimo Workspace was to design a brave new, 21st-century workspace with fully integrated information-, communication- and multimedia technology. In our home, as well as our work environment, we are now using countless new technologies on a daily basis. It was our challenge to integrate these new technologies into a easy-to-use and user-centric solution in order to enhance the consumer’s productivity, entertainment value and overall experience.
Design & Benefits
Multimo Workspace offers the ultimate combination of design and technology, aesthetics and efficiency, style and digital proficiency. The system and product is designed with adaptability and expandability in mind, aiming to provide a scalable solution. The Multimo Workspace can include: a touch screen to manage and control the system, a special compartment housing a universal connector panel that can store and connect different peripherals, a powerful PC, a server, DVD player and writer, 21″ LCD monitor and 24″ LCD TV monitor (mounted on electrical lifts), digital hard disk recorder, amplifier, speakers, web cam, omni-directional microphone, and a lot more…
The CCU’s (central computing unit) frame, an industry standard 19″ rack, is the heart of the system. The concept of a 19″ rack in a CCU is a worldwide patent. The CCU-unit is equipped with a sound protective coating which neutralizes the noise produced by the computer ventilators. Built-in sensors measure incoming and outgoing air temperature.
More technological features and functionalities do not translate automatically into better products. To the consumer, many of those features serve no purpose at all. With that in mind we’ve filtered technologies based on surveys with focus groups. Technologies were evaluated, selected and rejected. That way, we developed a higher level of ’synthesis’ in customer experience.
Exhibitions & Awards
Multimo Workspace was launched at Interieur Biënnale 2002, Kortrijk, Belgium.
Multimo Workspace has been nominated an iF Design Award in 2003.
